Agência Lupa unmasked a scam using the name Mercado Livre, a tactic that, unfortunately, is not restricted to the Father's Day period.

This time, instead of a punctual false Pix, the scam evolved into the creation of cloned sites that imitate the e-commerce platform, offering products with unrealistic discounts or promising gifts to those who make purchases through the fake site.

The false promise of a good deal still attracts victims, who never receive the product and lose the money invested. In addition, the sale of counterfeit products, which intensified during the Father's Day period, did not cool down.

These products, ranging from electronics and clothing to perfumes and watches, continue to be offered at prices well below the market, deluding consumers who seek to save money but end up being harmed.

When they arrive, in addition to their lower quality and non-compliance with the original product's specifications, counterfeit products may pose risks to consumers' health and safety. After all, the lack of warranty and technical assistance are also common problems.

The product categories that were most targeted during Father's Day continue to be the target of fraudsters, including:

  • Gift cards (sold with non-existent balances or fake codes);
  • Perfumes (imitated with low quality fragrances and misleading packaging);
  • Cell phones (sold as new, but being used or refurbished models).
